Here is a list of places you can go to get some experience.

Computer Games

Play computer games that are similar to the world you want to create. Games in a similar vein to this one are generally adventure games and MUDs.

Computer Theory

While I have tried to make game where you do not need to be a computer programmer to write a game, knowing about objects and Object oriented approaches would not help.

Interactive Fiction

This game system has strong connections to interactive fiction. So have a look at what is being done in this field.

Lexical Hierarchies

The Object Oriented data structure is primarily based on lexical hierarchies. I have used these as the basis because they have thousands of years of language development behind them and hence are a good point for the codification of information.

Role-Playing Games

Role-playing games can be of most help to the world author, because they let you see how the underlying system works. Writing a role-playing system is similar to writing a game world. Writing a role-playing scenario or module is the same as writing a game.
